Respect stands in solidarity with peoples across the world who are denied their national rights or live under oppressive regimes or face the threat of intervention by the imperialist powers.
We welcome the achievements of the Venezuelan people in tackling poverty, improving health care and education, promoting industrial democracy and land reform, tackling poverty and opposing privatisation.
We salute the stand they have taken against threats and intimidation by the USA. We are aware that the situation is becoming more critical with US-backed provocations against the government getting more frequent. Multinationals and their supporters inside and outside Venezuela seek to sabotage the reforms being carried out and destabilise the country.
Respect extends its solidarity to the people of Venezuela and applauds its government for its challenge to neo-liberalism and US domination.
We support the Hands off Venezuela Campaign and other campaigns in their defence.
The Palestinian people have suffered more than half a century at the hands of Israel. We condemn the continuing Israeli occupation of the West Bank and the construction on Palestinian land of the “security wall”.
We call for the recognition and implementation of the Palestinian right to return, and for the abolition of all discriminatory legislation.
We stand in solidarity with Palestinian political prisoners, and call for their immediate release from detention. Respect will work with Palestinian trade unions, women’s organisations, civil rights groups and other activists towards this goal. We support the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and other relevant solidarity organisations.
Respect recognises that the Kurdish people are a distinct people with their own culture, language, heritage and ethnic identity. They suffered a historic injustice in the aftermath of the First World War when the imperialist powers drew up the borders of the Middle East – which is the root of the problem still existing today.
Respect supports the right of the Kurdish people to self-determination. We call for the ending of the ban on legitimate Kurdish political organisations and the release of all Kurdish political prisoners. We believe that enduring peace and freedom for
all the peoples in the region will only be established through respect for the unity and freedom of the Kurdish people.
Respect supports the struggle of the Kashmiri people. We support the commitment given by India, Pakistan and the United Nations to allow the Kashmiri people the right to
self-determination. We call for unfettered access to human rights organisations, medical and aid agencies into the states of Azad, Jammu, and Kashmir.
The creation of independent Kashmir will not only fulfil the aspirations of Kashmiris but also be instrumental in beginning a new era of friendship between India and Pakistan where Kashmir will act as a bridge of hope rather than a point of conflict.
