'Mayor' Boris "would be like appointing the Duke of Edinburgh to the United Nations - Galloway |
George Galloway this evening savagely attacked Boris Johnson and his pretensions to become mayor of London. In an article to appear in tomorrow's Daily Record he writes: "Bonkers Johnson can scarcely be imagined representing one of the world's great capitals. He backed Bush and Blair's war on Iraq and boasts he stole Tariq Aziz's cigar case when roaming around his empty house on a post-war dance on Iraqi war graves. He described black children as 'picaninnies', marvelling at their 'water-melon smiles'. And he's managed to insult the people of Liverpool, Swindon and Bristol."
In a speech tonight Galloway expanded on his attack: "He is the worst nightmare one could imagine for mayor. It's unfortunate in the extreme that the New Labour government is so unpopular for very good reasons, that we are in danger of walking blindfold into a Johnson mayoralty. But the justifiable unpopularity of Gordon Brown and New Labour is no reason not to vote for Ken Livingstone against Boris Johnson. Livingstone is being attacked because he opposed the war and believes in London's rich and tolerant cultural mix."
George Galloway is standing to become a member of the London Assembly. He launches his election campaign tomorrow outside City Hall at 11am. |
