George Galloway to launch GLA election campaign at City Hall, 11am Monday 31 March 2008
Join George Galloway and other Respect candidates for the London Assembly on the Respect routemaster at 10.30am, City Hall, on Monday as Geoge launches the campaign to see him and others elected on 1st May.

There will also be a press conference under cover at 2pm in Preem and Prithi Restaurant, corner of Hanbury Street and Brick Lane, where George will also be introducing Respect's candidate for City and East constituency.

George Galloway will be leading the RESPECT slate for the London members election. Just 5% of the vote across London will see George elected to the London Assembly.

George says: "When we were just 20 weeks old we came within a whisker of winning a seat on the London Assembly. Four years on, we are better known and have a string of unprecedented election results under out belt - including my victory in Bethnal Green and Bow in 2005.

"It's said Ken Livingstone doesn't take note of the assembly; that's because those who have been on it are eminently unnoteworthy. If I and my colleagues are on the assembly, he'll have to take notice of us.

"I'm standing to defend the cultural mix that makes London such a great city and to address the blight of poverty and inequality. For a multicultural London , affordable for all."

George Galloway, Linda Smith, Councillor Abdul Karim Sheikh and other candidates will be saying how they intend to represent all the diverse communities across London and ensure that we have an Assembly that gives a voice to those who are not heard at the moment. They will then be boarding the Respect battle bus and heading into the East End to campaign.

RESPECT are standing a full list. Other candidates include London Fire Brigades Union member Linda Smith (RESPECT leader and nominating officer), Councillors Abdul Karim Sheikh and Hanif Abdulmuhit from Newham, Councillor Mamun Rashid from Tower Hamlets and Zachariah Haji Abdi, who becomes the first person of Smali origin to stand for the London Assembly.

RESPECT is also challenging for the geographically-based seat in City and East, standing Respect Councillor Hanif Abdulmuhit, in an area, where Respect has gained considerable support in the past.
