Hundreds protest against BNP & Holocaust denier in Oxford |
Hundreds of students and others blockaded the Oxford Union debating club on Monday 26 November and succeeded in disrupting a meeting involving Holocaust-denier David Irving and Nick Griffin of the fascist British National Party.
Respect supporters in Oxford were part of the mobilisation which was supported by coach-loads of protesters from London and elsewhere.
George Galloway MP travelled from London to take part in the protest. He said, “The true face of Oxford University is out here on the streets.
“My constituents in East London know exactly where giving fascists and Holocaust deniers prestigious platforms leads. In the 1930s it was Oswald Moseley’s Blackshirts, in the 1970s, the National Front, in the 1990s the BNP – on each occasion progressive people linked arms with immigrants and minorities and stopped the fascists.
“I am pleased to be here and I applaud the hundreds of Oxford students who have turned up to the protest.”
Scores of protesters managed to get into the grounds of the Oxford Union and forced a considerable delay in the meeting. |
